Stay tuned for more
We will be putting a new post up here shortly with information about some fun upcoming events that we are planning. Stay tuned for more...
In this post, we will include the following information:
- Physical Fitness Forms
- How to get Invested
- Patrols and Patrol Leadership
- Patrol duties
- Upcoming activities and events
Physical Fitness Forms
Before you can go on any off-site events with us, we need you to fill out this form and bring it to us. Yes, it says Non-members, but it captures the information we need, so still fill it out. Please note, that you MUST give us an emergency number that is NOT THE SAME as your regular phone number. In fact it must be for another person. We will always try to contact you first. The emergency number is for if we cannot get hold of you.
How to Get Invested
In order to get invested, you need to do three things:
- You need to know a bit about our founder, Baden Powel. Follow this link for information about him. You should know his name and why we call him our founder. Maybe his final rank in the British Army.
- You need to know the Scout Promise, Law, Motto and Slogan. Follow the link to see them.
- You need to attend at least one event outside of a scout meeting.
Patrols and Patrol Leadership
In scouting, we organize our scouts into groups of roughly 5-7, with a patrol leader (PL) and assistant patrol leader (APL). These two are usually 2nd year or older scouts, but in our case with 4 patrols and only 7 returning scouts, we'll have to promote 1 1st year scout to APL.
If the APL is not present, the PL may promote another scout from his patrol to assist him for that night (or activity). If the PL is not present, the APL takes his duties and may promote another scout from his patrol to assist him.
We will be posting a link to the troop list, along with patrol assignments, once all patrols have had a chance to choose a name for their patrol.
Patrol Duties
Your patrol will be like your family in scouting. You will do many activities as a patrol. When preparing a camp menu or camp list, or preparing for other activities, you will often do this as a patrol.
A schedule will be distributed that shows what our plans are for each night, and assigns a patrol to be duty patrol. If the PL knows that he (or his APL) will be absent, he can switch nights with another patrol and notify the scoutmaster.
We will occasionally gather the troop leadership (including adult leaders, PLs and APLs) to do some event planning based on ideas brainstormed by the rest of troop.
The PL or his APL will collect dues, take initial attendance and check inspection.

The Duty Patrol is responsible for the following:
- If no one has done so when they arrive, get the flags and set them up
- Duty Patrol will do the flag break and flag lowering ceremonies
- Duty Patrol picks two or three songs they'd like to do for campfire time
- If it's not a common campfire song, make sure that scoutmaster knows it, has time to learn it, or be prepared to lead it yourself
- Duty Patrol picks and organizes a game that they would like to play during gym time
- Duty Patrol may notify scoutmaster that they are bringing a devotional. If they do not notify scoutmaster by the weekend before, one of the scout leaders will bring the devotional
