November and December 2018 Activities

No Scouts on Wednesday October 31st

This will be a night off for our scouts and beavers.

Wed Nov 7 - Prep for Remembrance Day

On Wed Nov 7th we will be preparing for Remembrance day and practicing colour party duties.

Sun Nov 11 - Remembrance Day

Willingdon Scouts have done the Remembrance Day ceremony at George Derby Veterans Hospital for many years. Some years ago, they rebuilt the facility and made it larger. At that time they were approached by the military who suggested that they would provide a colour party for future Remembrance Day programs, but the organization declined, choosing rather to reserve that honour for our scouts!

We are looking for a good turnout for this event, and will need to confirm who can be our colour guard for the event.  Please let us know at our next meeting, Wed Nov 7, if you can attend the ceremony.  The ceremony starts 11:00, but we will need to be there earlier. Exact times will be shared soon. No registration form required.  This event qualifies you for investiture.

Wed Nov 14 - Operation Escape and Evade

This is a Burnaby Area event.  For this event we are NOT meeting at Willingdon, but expect you to be dropped off at the start location and picked up at the end location.

Different Start Time: 6:30 pm

Start LocationGilmore Community ElementarySchool (north side parking lot)

End Location: Capital Hill Elementary School (parking lot accessed off Hastings street)

Cost:  FREE!

You will need to fill in this registration form and return it no later than our next meeting, Wed Nov 7.

This is an urban hike. Dress for the weather and bring a flashlight.  This event qualifies you for investiture.

Sat Nov 17 - Day Hike, Cooking Over Fire

Drop off at 9:00 am, pick up at 3:00 pm at Willingdon.  At this event, we will need to hike in everything we need to build a fire, and cook our lunch over it.  Firewood, hot dogs, buns and condiments will be provided.

Dress for the weather - we go rain or shine.  Bring any tinder or kindling that you may have. We will provide wood for each patrol.  Bring a day pack so you can help carry in our gear and food. Bring a filled water bottle. If you need more than one bring an extra.

You must fill in this registration form and it must be handed in with the $5.00 fee by Wed Nov 14th (Operation Escape and Evade night).

If you have not already filled one in, you must also fill in a physical fitness form and turn it in. If you have already filled one in, you won't need to do it again this year.

Wed Nov 28 - Camp Fires and PJ Briefing

Wed Nov 28 we will be building camp fires in a fire bowl.  At 8:45 we will have a briefing for parents who are interested in sending their scout to PJ 2019 at Camp Barnard.  The Link below is to the Scouts Canada FAQ:

Wed Dec 19 - Heritage Village Foodbank Drive
